Dating violence in college students
All of our performances and programs are created to prevent bullying, cyber bullying, teen dating violence, adult dating violence, domestic violence and sexual assault.These performances take place in a multitude of venues such as schools, colleges, outreach and community centers, military facilities and churches.There are 9 plays for audiences from Grade 1 through College with presentations for military and communities also available.Deana's Educational Theater Company is currently celebrating it's 2 year anniversary.In October, Cecilia Lam, a San Francisco State University student and advocate for the prevention of domestic violence, was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend.Last month, Diamoney Greene, a student at the University of South Carolina, was killed by her boyfriend. While not currently at the forefront of a national conversation, domestic violence remains as prevalent an issue among college students as sexual assault.School-Based Advocates facilitate groups of students who wish to build self-esteem and learn fun and useful skills in building healthy relationships.
It does seem that, now more than ever, women are ruling the school.
New Hope advocates are available to provide private and confidential services to students or staff in need of support around unhealthy or abusive relationships with friends, family members, or dating partners.
Advocates are available by appointment at high, middle, or elementary schools.
As with cases of sexual assault, most incidents of domestic violence go unreported, meaning the number is likely much higher.
College-aged women experience a higher rate of partner violence than any other age group.“The Yellow Dress” play was the foundation for Deana’s Educational Theater Company.
